This is an old Singer 95-12 industrial sewing machine that I managed to get working recently. It was produced by the Singer Company and according to them it was built in Elizabeth, NJ circa 1923. I came by it when I bought a couple of other industrials off of the owners of Skydive California City when they closed up shop a couple of years ago. It was “non-functional” at that point, but with a little tinkering and some parts I was able to find via the Internet, it looks like there may be some use left in her.

It is book-like with cover, endpapers and flyleaf. China Marks is an artist who draws with an industrial sewing machine, using thread on fabric to make process-directed contemporary drawings that are shown at museums and galleries in the United States and Europe. “A Book of Horses is her second book.
